Soon after it was settled in 1822, Clayton became a major shipbuilding and lumbering port. Dozens of charming buildings from this magnificent era remain. The Clayton Chamber of Commerce is an information hub, including a guide to the Historic Walking Tour.
Clayton is home to some of the most unique museums in the 1000 Islands, including the renowned Antique Boat Museum. The Thousand Islands Museum, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, houses special exhibits of world-class muskies and hunting decoys from the past and present. A new archival library is open in the museum for research of river heritage. The Thousand Islands Arts Center showcases a beautiful collection of handweaving and offers art exhibitions and workshops for all ages.
Just a short Drive from the Utica Area- this getaway is one of the best summer stops you can make in the Thousand Islands.
